Twelve pilgrims have died and over a dozen others injured in a stampede at Jammu and Kashmir’s Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The stampede was triggered by a large rush of devotees, officers stated immediately.
The incident occurred outdoors the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine on Trikuta hills.
The stampede occurred when an enormous crowd of devotees, who got here to pay their obeisance to mark the start of the New Yr, entered the Vaishno Devi Bhawan, the officers stated, including that “giant teams of devotees reportedly entered the Bhawan with out permission slips.”

Senior officers and representatives from the shrine board are on the spot.
Senior officers have confirmed that 12 pilgrims have died lifeless and not less than 14 others are injured within the stampede. “All of the injured have been taken to a hospital,” they added.
The situation of most of the injured is alleged to be “severe”, the official stated.
